  • L-2 Rebuild - Need Cowling Fasteners

Now that I've owned my L-2 for one year now, I've decided to go ahead and recover and fine-tune the details that this awesome bird deserves.

As small as it may seem, I'm looking for a couple of cowl fasteners that are missing. However a spare of two or so would be appreciated. The attached picture might give you the needed info for the nomenclature of this type of fastener. Otherwise, any options would also be a GREAT help.

This past year, the L-2 has been flying very well. This includes a 14hr roundtrip flight between Louisiana and Midland, TX for the CAF airshow. Overall, my L-bird is in great condition. Just some extra needed TLC. A few pulleys have been replaced, new cables, new flooring and finally the aft tabletop and has been reproduced. At this point the interior and exterior of the fuselage, flight controls, and horizontal stab are covered (can't start the paint until it warms up).

As always, any input would be appreciated, and I would be more than happy to share any information and/or pics of this process.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hi Jim,

Those are Boeing fasteners and I believe Dick Fischer makes those. There are pictures over on the MSN L-2 site. Just google 'MSN L-2 liaison' because I am terrible with links. Look through the messages or someone here will direct you. Good luck!
    Cheers,
    Marty

      Thanks Marty,
Looking at the pictures on the L-2 Liaison Aircrafts - MSN; it appears these are exactly what I'm looking for. I left him an email of my interest in acquiring a few of these. I was not expecting such a quick solution. Thank You Much Marty !!!!!

This is just information, not a suggestion. Some of the L-2's used Dzus fasteners, including the prototype. I was able to build new cowling for my DC-65 and changed over to the Dzus because they worked better. But the Boeings look nice and antique.

I have the boeing fasteners. The early tandems had dzus fasteners. Let me know howmany you need. They come complete with the spring, cups and pins. [email protected]. Dick

              Hi Mr. Huish,
Dick Fischer, just refered me to you because he was out of the boeing fasteners. For a moment I thought I was out of luck.

My cowling is actually in great shape and only missing one fastener on both of the lower sides (2 ea.) A couple are useable, however I'd like to replace if the source is there. If you can sell me a half dozen or so, that would leave me a spare or two.

I'll email you my phone number and mailing address.

              Thanks much Dick.

What's with the two Fairey Swordfish models hanging on the wall in the third photo?? Or are those FIAT CR.42 biplanes?

                  Chet,

To change the subject, did you ever find a source for the Airpath streamlined compass for yours???

I'm developing a screenplay (mini-series) about C.G. Taylor & Taylorcraft. Another project I'm developing includes a screenplay and stage (musical) version about the WASP during World War II. Some WASP trained and flew
