  • L2M Spoilers

I recently purchased a L2M that has the spoilers still working. I have heard conflicting reports, anywhere from these were should have been removed via AD or Service Bulletin, to they are simply dangerous and they should never be deployed, to they're great fun and the use of them is OK. Please help me with the actual facts regarding the spoilers. BTW, I've tried them and they are a real hoot!!!
    Thanks

    Re: L2M Spoilers

Nick, The spoilers ARE legal. The confusion comes from a note on the type certificate that states that if L-2M or TG-6 wings are installed on a DC-65 the spoilers must be removed and the spoiler bays covered. There was never a order to remove the spoilers. All Taylorcrafts between sn 5166 and 6350 were built with them. That includes the L-2M and the ST-100 (TG-6). As for your airspeed We installed the same engine/prop combination and with almost identical conditions the ship flew at 110 as measured by a GPS. Either your ship has something out of rig or your airspeed indicator is off. BTW your sink rate doubles but it doesn't affect the attitude or airspeed. Dick
