I have a 1940 bl-65 with an open cowl. I see pictures of other 40's with closed cowls. Was there a mid year change? A option to buy a closed cowl? Does the engine run cooler being open or too cool ?

Re: Open Cowl vs Closed
There was a change to the closed(pressure) cowling option around mid 1939 I believe. The pressure cowl cools better and most Taylorcrafts were converted.... including my 1938 B. I would suggest leaving your bird original, but if you decide to change, I would be interested in your cowls. For originalities sake, I will be converting back to open cowl in the near future. Changes include the boot cowl and firewall as well. They are narrower on the open cowls.MIKE CUSHWAY

Re: Open Cowl vs Closed
I have a rough boot cowl for a closed cowl '40 B model that I would part with for a reasonable price or trade for some parts if anyone is interested. You would have to pick it up in the Indianapolis area. It would be to costly to ship.
