I am doing the prep work for a rebuild of the wings on my 1946 BC12-D. It had the Harer STC applied in 1973 bringing it up to a BC12-D-4-85. The plane was rebuilt in 1991 and recovered with Stits before I purchased it, Going over the drawings for the STC, I have noticed a dimension that is puzzling.
and no, this is not the 1/32" ply doubler out at the strut attach fittings. I hope that this question doesn't generate all the heat that that one did! Or maybe I do, now that I think of it.
My STC drawings are Revision A dated 1-10-64. The drawing in question is G-105, the front spar drawing that shows the larger bushings.
My spars (just re-measured to make sure) are 5 11/16" tall. This dimension matches the figure found elsewhere in other forum postings. However the end view of the spar on G-105 says 5 15/16", +1/32", -0" !!
I am confident that my spar is 5 11/16" and it sure looks like the ribs are happy with that dimension. I plan to use 5 11/16 as my spar dimension on the rebuild, but I wonder if I am missing something.
Was this just a mistake on the drawing?
Were there larger (taller) spars at some time?
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks for any comments
