  • Trim Tab Measurement

    Good evening all,
I am currently making a new trim mechanism for my '40 BC-65 and need a measurement from someone.

What is the distance between the inboard ends of the trim tab airfoils ?

    OR

What is the distance from the in-board end of the tab airfoil and the fuselage fabric?

Either one will get me where I want to go.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,

Can't give you the exact measurment at the moment, but I just had to replace the steel tube that the airfoils mount to, and the inside of the airfoils to the fabric is very small, I'll say less than 1/2". Tomorrow I'll be at the hangar and will check if no one else can give you the answer before then.

Hi Mike, Take your pick.... inboard end edge to fuse fabric 1" on the right side and 7/8" on the left. Don't know if either one of them are original. Looks like they were made at different times or places....h

Sounds good to me. Thanks for the help.

Mine are a little closer. I measured 3/8" today, and I don't know how original they are either.

Thanks. My dad owned NC22625 (BL-55) back in 1940-41. I have a color picture of it. Metalic blue with black or dark blue stripe and leading edges.

Do you have any spare parts? See my list of wants in the Buy-Sell. Thanks again.

              Hi Mike,

That's great that you have a pic of your dad's '39. Hang on to it. You never know, you might get it back someday! I see it's in AK now, at least by the registry anyway. I wish I had one of 22606 for future use...

As far as extra parts go, I've found and bought just a few myself that I have stored away, but nothing you listed as needing except the round control wheels. I keep meaning to put those on to replace the incorrect magnesium wheels. I need to re-chrome and paint them first.

Good luck with everything. Keep us informed how the progress is going too.

                Hey Mike,
I have talked to the current owner of my Dad's '39. Apparently damaged when a hangar or door fell on it. Anyway, no longer airworthy. Wheel shafts were probably nickle plated rather than chrome. Forrest might know.
                Later,
                Mike
