We installed new three inch pulleys on the aileron cables. After installation, the ailerons are not rigged right. When the ailerons are in neutral position the control yokes are turned approximately 15 degrees to one side. Up aileron on one wing is approximately 10-15 degrees and down aileron is well over 25 degrees. The other wing is just the opposite with up aileron being well over 25 degrees and up aileron being 10-15 degrees. Question is what is the correct procedure to rig the ailerons?

Frank,
I would start by looking at the chain over the sprockets on the universal joints (part of the control H frame). If you slacken off the turnbuckles you should be able to jump the chain over the sprokets so that the yokes are about straight. Minor adjustments can be made through turnbuckles within the aileron control runs.
Make sure you don't over tighten the turnbuckles though because this will give the ailerons a heavy feel later on.TF#405

aileron rigging
Frank, I just went throught the same thing. Check the chains as they go over the sprockets to be sure that each end as it goes over the sprockets is the same length. Otherwise, don't mess with the chains. The turnbuckles behind the seat are where the adjustments should be made. You will be surprised by how much the ailerons will move by a small amount of turnbuckle adjustment. If you loosen the turnbuckles you can fiddle with them until you get a 1/4" droop in the ailerons and the wheel straight. When you adjust the turnbuckles be certain that you have no more than three threads showing and that you safety with .040 safety wire. An A&P should do the job.

cable adjustment
Frank,
I just went thru this on N39203. I couldn't get the yokes to line up. I loosened the turnbuckle @ the rudder peddles and adjusted the chain from there AFTER I secured both the alerons in in the neutral position with some clamps. When the yokes lined up I tensioned up the lower turnbuckle and then finished the adjustments @ the single turnbuckle that linkes both alerons together.
Best Regards

IF all attempts end in failure to align the wheels. MAKE sure all is well except the alignment of the wheels. Then pull the shafts and see if interchange may help , they may have gotten crossed sometime. IF still no good , turn the shaft 90 degrees and redrill... AT the factory , we match drilled the wheel to the shaft at the end of the rigging process.....Taylorcraft Foundation, Inc
