  • BC12D to BC12D-85

We have a Talylorcraft BC12D with an A-65 engine. We want to change the engine to a C-85-8. In looking at the Type Data Certificate we see that there is a BC12D-85. Does anyone out there know what modifications are required to make the changes? Looks like Fuel system, aux tank, wing fittings & minor structural changes. Would like to hear from someone that has made the change. Earl Evans

Along those same lines, I'm wondering if a BC12D can be converted to 85 and/or 1500# without having to use the long mount and electrical system installation? I'm not against an electrical system, I'd just prefer to keep it light and inexpensive. I'd also prefer not to have to put the rear windows in if I can get away with it.
    Thanks

        85 conversion

        Howdy Guys,

If you want to add an 85-8, I think that this can be accomplished on a 337 since bc12D's had an 85-8 available under the orig type cercificate. You can use the old short mount and do not have to add the extra wing tank. You cannot, however, use the 85-12 unless you use the long mount. If you are going to do that, it will have to be done under the Harer STC. Check with your A&P but the change from the 65 to the 85 shouldn't be a big deal.

Actually a log book entry could do it; although a 337 would probably help out these new PMI 's at the FSDO. What you need is the "approved" data that shows the difference in the two models exactly. You are goin the right way. Maybe check with the factory for the "approved" data. We have it here at the Foundation BUT the factory is the control now according to the FAA.....
