  • Model BC12-D carpet

I have a 1946 BC12-D Deluxe and need to install new carpet which I have. Can anyone tell me how to get underneath the shaft which supports the rudder pedals or do I cut it into two pieces? The carpet I have is a good commercially made one for this plane. It is about the right size but may need some trimming.?? The one which I took out which was not original was in two pieces. The main floor and another piece between the rudder pedal shaft and the firewall. Any advice about originality and what works best would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much,

    Hi Brian,

I took the carpet out of my bc12d many years ago so memory is a bit fuzzy.

I remember that the front portion of it had some slits/cuts that were in the fore and aft direction and were about 6"-8" long. The slits/cuts allowed me to snake the carpet either under that shaft for the rudder pedals OR between the pedals. Frankly I cannot recall which it was.

Definitely no tools were required to remove/install.

Here's a picture of a carpet install that looks to be one piece with a slot matching the rudder pedal assemblies.

The more I look at it, I think the carpet in the above link is in two pieces. The cuts just match the rudder assemblies. That's the way I did mine. Mine just doesn't look as neatly done as the one pictured. That plane was an OSH winner, Lindy I think, a few years back. It's been linked in a few threads in the past. I constantly go to these pictures to dream about what I would like to do. And the skills I wish I had.
