  • What kind of nails to use on rib to spar

I put in a new rear spar and the "aircraft nails"that I have look too small to me. The nailheads are smaller than the ones I pulled out of the original spar. I would like to use a bigger headed nail but with the same size shank. What did they originally use? Any ideas? Mike in Texas

I'm assuming these are the rib mounting nails. The nails are Shear mode. Not Tension. No problem. The nail head just helps keeps the aluminum flat against the spar.
If you used the old holes in the aluminum and it happens to be larger than the head, just shift the nail up, down or sideways a 1/16 inch. Or put another nail beside the one already there.
