Re: Crack on A-A11 Strut Ftg

Well thanks! I'm just doing what I need to do to get flying again The hardest part of the repair was cutting a huge hole in the fabric.

          John,

Just curious, as I have flown-in there in the past, are you at Smartt Airport?
          Cheers,

John ,What a nice quick repair and it looks SAFE. You got right to behemoth of a task . I would bet there is not 20 T-Cafters that could do what you did on the strut fitting.
I noticed the metal underneath the tubing and when you removed the fitting looked good with very little rust . About how much would it cost to do a repair like yours ?
The fabric looked great and appeared to be Stits ?? I have airtech and it is hard to get a nice looking repair . YOU DAH MAN JOHN !!

I was very pleased with the condition of the original tubing - still had the black oxide on it! I would hate to guess what a repair of this nature might cost?? This is the PolyFiber process and easy to repair but still very visible. All this behind me now I am pleased with how it went.

                  John,

Been there many times. We had friends who had a hangar there at one time. Dot and Ken Kotik. Flew my L-2B in there many years ago. Miss Ken and haven't heard from Dot in several years.
                  Cheers,

With the 337's filed and the annual in the log book, the TCraft took to the air after what seemed to take forever! I want to thank everyone that helped and supported our repair! Here's a link for a short video clip on my facebook account https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?v=654759244543828

In a nut shell , get your trusted A&P and IA to peel fabric back about a foot around the fitting. Prop wing , or remove, Pull landing gear, I would do both sides to properly comply with the AD on the fitting. Good time to do struts if they are not sealed.
Get a good Oxy-Act welder to do a repair ; it will need a big Bud and his torch combination. Check inside oif course for any corrosion , when was the strut attach fitting AD CW , It looks like a possible bad situation. Where are you located... Is it in Annual now? Your direct e-mail is here too . YES I have the fitting here for reference only ..... It is really not something that should be replaced in the field. I will send drawing direct e-mail . Too big for here.

Did anyone get a digital copy of this drawing that might send me a copy of the file?

                            Thanks, Dave

I have jpeg format copies of the fuselage (two pages) and the strut fitting dwg "A-A11 Assembly" plus a couple of flat-pattern drawing/sketches and can provide these to anyone interested. I tried to post them but they are too large - email, snail mail or stop in at 1H0 "One Hotel Zero". If you plan a visit, reserve enough time to tour the museum http://www.historicaircraftrestorati....org/home.html
