  • Battery paperwork sought

    Hi folks

I'm looking for the paperwork for a BC-65, to fly a non-approved battery as the power supply for the markers, beacon, txprnd & com.

I'm looking to do this in combination with a wind driven generator.

Seems like the lightest PMA'd 28v battery is about 24lbs! But all the PMA'd batteries I've seen also have the capacity to start the engine (obviously not needed).

Really need the paperwork from somebody who is flying something lighter.

What 337 or field approvals are out there?

    J.

You need to look for a battery that is STC"ed for your aircraft or any "approved aircraft battery". PMA'ed is different.

I will see if I can find you the name of the man at Gill or Concord. They both make what you are looking for in a battery. You can look up thier numbers and call tech support as well. Yausa, I think is how you spell it, the japanese group make one as well.

Once you find an "approved" battery you may have to STC it or you may be able to go the 337 route, all depends on your FISDO.

There are several Helicopter batteries you could use and that may require a 337 approval.

You may have to do a 337 on the method of holding the battery in place ( "battery box" ).

Not too long ago many were using the DEKA brand battery which was made for small airplanes but they never got it approved and the Feds violated a bunch of unsuspecting maintenance personel. It was agood battery and was cheap but was not approved for aircraft.

OK. Is 14 CFR Part 25.1353 the controlling section for battery certification? Or is there something else?

What is the controlling specification for battery capacity (VFR)?

Concorde lists the RG-1207 (12v10Ah, 12.5lbs) model battery as certified for light aircraft on the website, but it does not seem to be widely distributed. (Where to get a price quote on one?)

Also Hawker lists their SPS J16 (12v15Ah, 14.8lbs) as STC'd for the PA-18. Anyone know what other SPS series batteries are also certified?

Are you guys' txpndr equiped ships all papered up?

      Cheers

I installed an Interstate sealed battery that only weighs 6 lbs with a field approval 4 years ago.
