Re: Aileron cable hookup
Hi
don't have a picture but, the taylorcraft manual in this web site has a view. There are 3 each connectors. 6 turnbuckles. 3 turnbuckles have LH threading and 3 have RH threading. This way they can tighten the cables as they are threaded in. It will be tricky, since the end result is, to have the designated aileron travel on both wings. You will need a protractor. Check in both directions upper travel and lower travel. In one of the forums someone is restoring a BC12D. The pictures showing the tail elevator hook up shows the connector and one turnbuckle. If you have new cables, they stretch, so if you adjust the tension, May have to keep track of this.

Re: Aileron cable hookup
Hi - Thanks that looks good. If the cables are being made that's great improvising. Page 3 of the service manual shows a third connector and 2 turnbuckles in the aft cables. This is approximately a 5" difference. The installation will tell more.

Re: Aileron cable hookup
I have a few copies of the original connector plates I made out of the original type (4130) steel in .100" gage if anyone needs them. I thought I would need them but found out I didn't. I can provide drawings as required also. Specify primer type /color. I have Rustoleum Red, Primer Gray and Chrome Silver (what I believe was used on the '41's) unless it was ZnCr, which I still have a little bit of.Bill Fife

Re: Aileron cable hookup
I would be interested in a couple of the connector plates in addition to the drawings for them. Ours is a '41 so probably chrome silver but another color would be fine also. Let me know details for getting these from you.
Thanks for making these available. Via this message thread I've realized we might need to redo the way ours is set up.

Re: Aileron cable hookup
I have three blanks already cut and drilled. I have to go get the originals to check to see which of these have the correct hole spacing. If any two of them are good then I can knock them out in no time. I made these originally to address slack in the lines and the fact the cables were still factory-braided.
I laid out and drilled several test sets on the original 4130 strip and at least two are correct but if they're the only ones then still will need to be cut out and shaped. If so will take just a while longer.
Your setup is different from the factory drawings but looks like it could work.
I've been studying washer /spacer arrangements in the overhead pair and can include those in the drawing... #, thickness and placement of ea.Last edited by wmfife; 06-10-2010, 20:01.Bill Fife

Re: Aileron cable hookup
It works but in this configuration the plate rotates slightly when ailerons are moved which introduces some slop in the control. I would like to reduce the slop and it looks like the factory configuration would be a step in this direction.
Not in any big hurry. Thanks for your effort.

Re: Aileron cable hookup
Blake,
I'm sending you a message via email. Not sure about some of the legal complications here regarding "owner-manufacture" but perhaps something can be worked out. I have all the correct materials and accurate line drawings. But "point of manufacture" will have to be on the forms. That may still need to be discussed.
Talk soon-
Regards,
