    Re: Taylorcraft Wing Tips

The second is likely the now-extinct Madras Supertips once sold by Ace Demers. The first one may be the same or Ferguson droop tips that Cub Crafters used to install. They were built to control and contain agricultural spray below the aircraft for farmer's crop maintenance (wing tip vortices). I've flown them and owned a set and found they were a minor improvement but tend to block vision to the side under the wing.

Here's a Taylorcraft I owned that was fitted with wing tips and engine cowling from an Interstate Arctic Tern. They are similar to the Hoerner concept wingtips but in later years Bill Diehl who made the Arctic Terns just went to a squared off flat end on the wing.

The tradeoff is cost vs drag vs additional weight vs benefit vs aileron effectiveness. The standard wing does well and by design pre-simulates Hoener's upswept concept. The big score for the non-stock is the additional length of the trailing wing edge which adds lift.

No I didn't paint the cowling.
