  • welded on steel door frames

Looked at most all posts and could not find anything similar. My October 46 BC12D has as found on tear down for rebuild, steel door frames welded to the fuselage. I'm getting ready to have fuse. blasted for rebuild of airframe. Is this common, as all the BC12Ds I have seen to date(not that many) had wood frames, or is this something a previous owner did. Nothing in log books about it. Thanks.

Re: welded on steel door frames

Hi and welcome. There was a conversation on this within the last few months, if I recall. I checked mine at that time and a magnet stuck so I would suppose mine are steel.

Here is a real old post, still looking: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...eel+door+frame

And here is the most recent, it is discussed in the thread: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...tal+door+frame

I can't say for the entire frame, but I know on a couple sections that there's steel frame riveted to steel tabs that are welded to the fuse. on mine.

Mine goes further by welding the frames to the welded tabs. I'm beginning to think this airframe was designed for some 5'7 to 8" and about a buck50 in weight and as limber as Gumby.

Well, you hit that nail on the head. A typical. average, person from the time these planes were designed was pretty much what you described.
