  • C-75 engine on BC12D

I purchased a Taylorcraft about five years ago with a C-75 engine. I had it inspected three times since then, but the last time the guy says I don't have the proper paperwork for the engine. I need an STC and a form 337. He says he can't find any record that anybody has ever put a C-75 on a BC12D and that it is going to cost me thousands to get my plane legal again.

Can this be true? I've seen posts about Taylorcrafts with A-75 engines. What is the difference. Can anybody help me?

Check out the following webpage... then call me. We can propose to your FAA-FSDO inspector that you purchase STC # SA1-210 and then request a deviation approved by a DER to substitute the C75 in lieu of the C85. This has been done before. If your FSDO inspector will go along with this, I can issue the DER approval. Total cost for the STC and DER approval will be less than $500.

I don't know if you've already gone thru with the STC purchase as advised, but if you are going to do that it might be worth your while to convert the C75 to a C85 and just use the STC as-is. I've attached Continental SB M47-16 that details the conversion - it is basically a carburetor change.
