  • Crankshaft

I have a tapershaft crankshaft for an A65 Continental. It has the large lightening holes, and has been turned 0.020"/0.020". All of the journals look like they just came from the machine shop. It has a small amount of extremely light surface rust on the taper shaft where the prop hub goes. But it is so light you can't even feel it with a finger nail.

Can someone tell me if this part is worth putting on Ebay? And if so, what is it worth. I see other A65 crankshafts listed on Trade-A-Plane and Barnstormers for as much as $1500. But I suspect they are not ground 20 under. I know that decreases the desirability. I would like to clean out my collection of parts, but not sure what to ask for this one.

It's not worth more than a few hundred unless it's yellow tagged. I recently had one ground .020 on the mains, flange checked for straightness, and nitrided for $600ish from aircraft specialties. If it doesn't need any machine work it will only be a couple hundred to get tagged.

What would you suggest I ask for it as a price range as is, without being yellow tagged. I would check the run out before I try to sell it. But I suspect it is going to be straight. It appears someone sent it out for machining and then just never installed it.

I sold an A-65 crankshaft core for $500 with the guarantee that it could be yellow tagged. It was .010 under on the rods and mains.
