  • Tip for bringing the luster back on an stits covered airplane

First and Foremost, I am no expert on fabric or how to maintain the various types out there, but I would like to share my recent experience with bringing back the shine to my heavily oxidaded and streaked bc12d. I recently purchased a bc12d/ f-19 in CT at the end of sept. (my first t-craft and first a/c) The fabric was redone in '97 in stits, but little was done to maintain it since. It spent its days outside with little attention. The paint or rather aerothane was streaked, and very dull. After a thourogh cleaning it was time to see if it could be brought back. I tried severl products, but fell in love with a Paste Metal Polish, Fiberglass, and Paint Restorer made by Flitz. With realitively little effort, it out-polished anything I tried and was also great for my polished spinner and hub caps. I think it might be ok for the windscreen and windows, but I haven't tried that yet. I did call Polyfiber and read them the ingredients list that was posted on the flitz website they said it should work great with out doing anydamage to the aerothane. They also recommend I use a coat of carnuba wax to follow. I had a polisher but prefferred using good ole elbow grease for application. You can order a 2lv can from www.flitz.com for about $60 bucks. I finished the fuselage, emmpange with about 1/2 -3/4 of a can, so 2 cans would probably be ideal for a whole Taylorcraft. You'll probably have left over paste but it's good to have on hand. If you do decide to use this product, make sure you call the manufacturer of your A/C's covering to make sure this product will suit your needs. Again the Ingredients are on the flitz website. Some day when I have time I get some before and after pix to post.
