I have a second set of doors for my 46 bc12d that I want to modify in to patrol doors. My question is, can i simply remove the metal that I want to and install plexi, or do I need to follow an STC, or apply for field approval? I found new manufacture handles for older VW's at airheadparts.com and ordered one. It came in today and I believe it will work on my BC12D. The hole is splined but measures slightly less than 7/16 in ID. I should be able to drill it out to 7/16 in. and insert a chromoly tube, which has an ID very close...
