Re: flying bare foot
Whilst finishing up my shopping today, I noticed one of our local shoe stores is now carrying SAS shoes, so I stopped for a peek. They are just as ugly as I remember....maybe uglier. They better be damn comfortable!
I fly in flips during the summer months. If I don't feel solid flipping the prop, I just flip them off my feet. I should get the reward for the most redundant use of the word flip.........and the most flippant use of the word redundant.

Re: flying bare foot
Watching you climb in must be quite a show. And I thought that I had problems getting in. (I'm 6'1").Originally posted by flylo View PostI'm 6'4" & wear size 14s. I don't have any problems in a Tcraft. I do like heel brakes better than toe brakes. Today would not be the day to fly barefoot in Michigan!
I wear boxing shoes when I fly. It is something that I learned back when I was racing short track stock cars. The "feel" is the same as being barefoot, but with some protection for the soles of your feet.

Re: flying bare foot
Size nine tennies, perfect fit. Those Kart shoes look pretty spiffy though. Good point Mike: Don't prop in flops. Or? Never flip in flops. Or--don't flip in flops or you may flail your feet and fall flat on your face. Ok, Ok, I quit.

Re: flying bare foot
At 5'8, the taylorcraft fits me perfectly! When I was in my early 20's, I used to love to fly my Taylorcraft bearfoot in the 100 degree Missouri Summers. But I had to slip my shoes on for takeoff and landing. Or I suppose if I was instructing.

Re: flying bare foot
Hi group, SAS shoes are made in San AntonioTx. and were developed by a orthopedic surgeon. Very comfortable but plain looking. I supose you could say it would be something the "older generation" would wear. Im only 55 so I dont fit in that catagory, but they are comfy to fly in, and they work for me.:joy: Dan

Re: flying bare foot
I have the answer!
Kart driving shoes!! Check out driving shoes that Kart and other race car drivers use. Most are suede/kevlar and are fire retardant. Best of all they are very comfortable and no bulky soles.
can be had in high and low cut style for about $60-100

You make them sound REALLY attractive.Originally posted by dedrekon View PostSAS are from the comfy but ugly school of shoes (Ecco, Clarks, Mephisto). They're the Volvo of footwear. You can find them on Ebay. I think they're made in Texas.

What are SAS shoes? I'm 6'4" myself & court shoes work for me, but less might be more.Originally posted by Dan Voth View PostHi DJ, Im big also with size 14 shoes. I also have a time, but have never flown bare foot. I fly with SAS shoes. They are very comfortable and seem to be smaller in external size than the other shoes that I have. Try them, you might like them. Dan

I usually wear moccasins like my ancestors when flying. I carry my hiking out boots too! I have four pair of mocs , the two button are my favorite, warm too!!

Re: flying bare foot
A note from the other side.
I'm, 5'5" size 6 1/2 shoes, (when I can find them), and fit the T-craft just fine. Like C. G. Taylor, I have trouble reaching toe brakes.
And while I'm on the Net, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a wonderful New Year. WE are looking forward to it!

Mike,Originally posted by mhorowit View PostWhat did you do in order to fit inside the Tcraft? I have difficulty with my legs at 6'1". Your knees must be around your chin! - Mike
I take a roll or two out of the seat sling and I have plenty of room.

Re: flying bare foot
I installed cleveland wheels and brakes, I mounted hyd. master cylinders under the floor and build new brake pedels that look like cub type. Now I only have to push lightly on the pedels, instead of standing on brakes and almost putting the pedals through the floor and barely getting it stopped before hitting the trees or bushes at the end of the strip. I do like the heel brakes after almost thrity years Iam kinda use to them.
