A reply for Allen and others in the northwest,
Flew to Astoria, OR. today for clam chowder. Winds were 16-22kts.
from 150*, but they were floppin from 140*-250* real fast. Landed a
couple of times on one approch and flew her to the tie downs. Secured
plane and went for chowder. They had just served the last bowl.DARN!
Well, a burger and back to KKLS.GREAT FLIGHT!Tricky, but GREAT!
COTTON WOOD ISLAND is privately owned by one of the tug boat
companies. This is according to a gentelman who flies on and off the
island. I have only landed on the island once, and that was with him
in his super cub w/balloon tires. The island is so very soft, that I
would not want land there w 6" tires. Tho I do make many an approch
to landing and pull out and up at about 50'AGL. It's becoming quite
popular for balloon tires and floats. It is also 1 mile from the
traffic pattern at KKLS, so keep your eyes open!
It is also said that the port of Kalama, has an option on it for the
purpose of a another bridge in about 30 years or so.
Hope this helps.
If there are others who have landed on this island with 6" tires, I
would like some advise.
